Keyboard Shortcuts to Make You a Power User

A power user is a computer user who enhances their productivity by using features such as keyboard shortcuts.

Here is a list of Windows-only (because Windows is the best operating system) keyboard shortcuts to make you a power user:

Keyboard shortcut Purpose Notes
Home While editing text, puts the text caret at the beginning of the current line. Very useful instead of holding down the left arrow key or moving the mouse and clicking.
End While editing text, puts the text caret at the end of the current line. Very useful instead of holding down the right arrow key or moving the mouse and clicking.
Ctrl + Home While editing text, puts the text caret at the beginning of the current field of text. Extremely useful instead of holding down the arrow key or scrolling, moving the mouse, and clicking.
Ctrl + End While editing text, puts the text caret at the end of the current field of text. Extremely useful instead of holding down the arrow key or scrolling, moving the mouse, and clicking.
Ctrl + Shift + V Pastes the contents of the clipboard without the formatting. None.
Shift + Home Selects all text from the current position of the text caret to the beginning of the line. None.
Shift + End Selects all text from the current position of the text caret to the end of the line. None.
Ctrl + Shift + Home Selects all text from the current position of the text caret to the beginning of the current text field. None.
Ctrl + Shift + End Selects all text from the current position of the text caret to the end of the current text field. None.
Shift + Moves ending selection point one character to the right. None.
Shift + Moves ending selection point one character to the left. None.
Insert (or Ins) Switches between text insertion mode (default) and text overtype mode. Text insertion mode is the normal typing mode. Text overtype mode is when you replace and "type over" characters. For example, if you are typing this (where the cursor is denoted as |): Example Li|ne of Text, and you type "Hi there!", it would result in: Example LiHi there!|xt
